Thinking of Ginger

©Vaughan Hoy 2013

New girl moved in across the road yesterday
Didn’t see her dad he must be away

Skinny wild thing with red hair
Runnin round like she don’t got a care
Wild wild as can be
Don’t see me in her magnolia tree

I see her riding her horse through the olive grove
Stealing oranges from the farmer across the road

Ginger’n me swapping secrets in her magnolia tree
Riding bare back to the river and being free

Sittin on the porch in the dark
Making promises we don’t believe
Heat of the day at night comes undone
Love has no words on the run

Whittle it in wood
Speak it if you could
Leave some things undone
Love has no words on the run

Touching stars together
Stray words floating away
Stealing thoughts from each other
Listening at night to crickets in the park

Whittle it in wood
Speak it if you could
Leave some things undone
Love has no words on the run

Ginger’n me swapping secrets in her tree
